Our Patient Care Technician combination class consists of four classes for a discounted price. The four classes include Certified Nurse Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician and BLS CPR class.

Our Certified Nurse Assistant class includes lecture, lab and clinical experience. The lecture and lab portions will take place at our school, while the clinical will take place at a local nursing home. We offer both day and night options for our students. Both our Phlebotomy and EKG Technician classes are blended learning experience of both online and in- class. All lectures will take place through our online classroom, while all of your lab experience (blood- draws and EKG readings) will take place in the classroom setting during specific dates/times. The student will have four-weeks to complete the online learning assignments at their own pace and an additional  four-weeks to complete all required blood-draws/EKG readings.

Our students will be taught about the healthcare field, healthcare teams, variety of healthcare setting, basic nursing assistant skills, anatomy and physiology, safety, medical terminology, communication, infection control, phlebotomy basics, EKG basics, equipment, specimen collections and handling, as well as various other information regarding patient care, phlebotomy and EKG’s. After completion of the program the student may sit for the National Certification Examination for Patient Care Technician. Our structured program gives step by step guided instruction so that every student can be
successful, whether they have a prior medical education and experience or not.

The average hourly wage for a Phlebotomist is anywhere from $14.00 to $20.00 or more.

How do I register for the Patient care technician Program?

To register for the Patient Care Technician class we require a $500 deposit to secure your spot. At the time of registration you will be required to fill out a registration packet as well as place your deposit. The remaining balance of $2,475.00 would be due on or before the first day of class (we do accept payment plans). You can register on our website by clicking the Apply Now button.

What is a Patient Care Technician (PCT)?

A patient care technician is an allied health professional who provide direct patient care in a variety of settings. Their duties include basic nursing assistant tasks, as well as performing ECG’s and phlebotomy tasks. The basic nursing assistant tasks may include skills such as vital signs and provides or assists with routine personal care, such as bathing patients and helping with toileting. The duties of the nurse assistant include observation, reporting, recording changes in resident’s condition, personal care services, assistance with activities of daily living (ADL), assist patients in attaining and maintaining functional independence, and communicate and interacting in a sensitive manner with patients. The duties also include assisting patients to move around safely, keeping patients living areas neat and clean, encouraging patients to eat and drink, caring for supplies and equipment, helping patients dress, making beds, helping patients with mouth care, updating other team members on resident’s status, and documenting or charting. The EKG tasks will consist of performing diagnostic tests to assess the patient’s heart rhythm and rate. They ensure proper electrode placement on the patient, record the ECG, prepare the report for the physician, ensure patient comfort and safety, and troubleshoot abnormalities with the recording. While the Phlebotomy portion will have the PCT responsible for obtaining patient specimens. They can perform various functions such as venipuncture, micro-collection, and specimen processing and handling while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.

What is the cost of the Patient care technician Program?

To cost of the Patient Care Technician Program is $3,050. The student is responsible for purchasing the books for the Phlebotomy Technician, Certified Nurse Assistant and EKG Technician class. After successfully completing all portions of the PCT class, the student will be eligible to sit for the PCT national exam. The student is responsible for costs of the PCT national exam if they choose to take it. 

What are the requirements to be accepted into your Patient care technician training class?

You must be at least 17 years of age, and provide a negative TB test within the last year and pass a background check. The background check is included in the tuition and will be conducted by Heart to Heart healthcare Training.

Do you offer Financial Aid or Payment Plans?

At this time we do not offer financial aid through FASFA. However, you can contact your local Michigan Works. If you qualify, they may assist you with paying for our courses.

How long is the Patient Care Technician class?

The Patient Care Technician class at Heart to Heart is a combination class that includes the Certified Nurse Assistant class, Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician and Basic Life Support CPR class. We offer both day and night options for the CNA class, the day class is two-weeks in length and the night class is four-weeks in length. The Phlebotomy Technician program is 8-weeks in length where you will attend lab two days a week while simultaneously completing your online learning. The EKG Technician class is ten weeks in length where you attend lab every other week on Thursday while also working on your online lessons. The online lessons include lectures, powerpoint, quizzes, exams, and homework. The last four weeks of the class we will meet for lab at our school. We offer both day and night lab options. In lab you will be able to work with the Phlebotomy and EKG equipment and get hands-on practical experience. Lastly, the BLS CPR class is one day and a few hours in length.
